Aaron Berry Arrested For The Second Time This Offseason, Cut By Lions

If we’re ranking offseason NFL headlines, Bountygate and major contract disputes come in first and second, respectively. But there’s another plot point that’s making a late push for NFL offseason news cycle dominance: the fact that players are being arrested at an alarming rate.

Detroit Lions cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested for the second time in the past month on Saturday, and was subsequently cut by the Lions Monday morning.

Berry’s Saturday arrest stemmed from a simple assault charge, although officers who took Berry into custody said there “was a weapon allegedly brandished during the incident.” On June 23, Berry was arrested on suspicion of DUI and other counts.

This is part of the statement the Lions released on their website following Berry’s release:

The Lions have terminated the contract of Lions cornerback Aaron Berry after he was arrested for a second time in a month over the weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Berry was released due to “personal conduct which adversely affects the club.”

“We have repeatedly stressed to everyone in our organization that there will be appropriate consequences when an expected standard of behavior is not upheld,” Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement.

As stated, Berry’s arrests have been only two of many to plague NFL players this offseason. Other football players that have gotten in trouble with the law also include Justin Blackmon, Marshawn Lynch, Dez Bryant, Elvis Dumervill, Dion Lewis, Adrian Peterson, Jerome Felton, Nick Fairley, and a host of other players.
