Conspiracy Theory Of The Day: Are Archie Manning And Oliver Luck Working To Keep Their Sons Off The Same Team?

Earlier today, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio joined Dan Patrick to share a conspiracy theory he has – albeit a believable one. You know how Archie Manning said his son Peyton and Andrew Luck probably shouldn’t be on the same team…then backtracked, saying he knew that Manning and Luck could coexist peacefully after all? Well, suffice to say, Florio thinks Archie Manning’s original remarks were the more accurate ones…and he thinks Team Manning is working in tandem with Team Luck to make sure we never find out how well a Manning-Luck Team would work out.

It made some sense, the way Florio laid it out. He mentioned when the elder Manning made his original “doubt they’d want to be on the same team” remarks, he also mentioned that he’d just spoken to Oliver Luck the night before. That was all he needed:

One thing sticks out in our minds when we hear this: Eli Manning getting drafted by the Chargers, and forcing a trade to the Giants. The Mannings forcing a team’s issue isn’t an unprecedented scenario. And there’s at least some concern that the Lucks could do something similar, though of course that can’t be confirmed until the draft itself.

There’s no doubt the Mannings and the Lucks are both savvy about the NFL (both Oliver Luck and Archie Manning played in the league), and will no doubt consult heavily with their sons going forward. And according to Archie Manning himself, they’re talking to each other, too. While of course we can’t be 100 percent sure that they’re talking about the Colts situation specifically, as conspiracy theories go, this one is about as grounded in reality as you’ll find.

This may not end up mattering.

Archie Manning is like the Jerry Jones of football dads, always sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong. He needs to just sit in his box, smile proudly,  and keep his mouth shut.
