Nate Robinson Is Serious About Giving That Whole Football Thing A Try
Back in July, Nate Robinson said he would consider making the switch to football in the event the NBA continues its lockout. Apparently he was totally serious, too, and not just spewing nonsense for the sake of giving a good interview.
“Why not?” he said about the prospect of trying out for an NFL team in the coming weeks. “It has always been one of my dreams to play in the NFL and right now, the opportunity is presenting itself so I think it’s pretty much a sign from God. I’m looking forward to trying out, having fun and showing the world that, as long as you put your mind to it, you can play any sport you want. Even if you’re a professional in one sport, you can play another one too.”
No stranger to the gridiron, the current Oklahoma City Thunder guard was a prized recruit out of high school and played cornerback for the University of Washington as a freshman before giving up the sport for basketball. Football also runs in his veins, as his father Jacque Robinson earned MVP honors in the 1982 Rose Bowl and 1985 Orange Bowl while a running back at Washington. He went on to play one season in the NFL.
Robinson, who hails from Seattle, says his first choice would be to play for the Seahawks. Last week, he tweeted back and forth with head coach Pete Carroll, who for his part seemed to think the 5-9, 180-pound point guard would make for a solid defensive back.

If not the Seahawks, Robinson said his next choice would be the Raiders, since his father is from Oakland. After that he has his sights set on Philadelphia, the team that “gave [his] dad a chance back in the day when he played in the NFL.” Unfortunately for the younger Robinson, another cornerback is probably the last thing the Eagles need right now.
