And This Week, The New York Post Imagines Eli Manning As Rambo

Well, a New York (or New York area, anyway) football team is in the playoffs, and that means it’s time for the headline writers and design team at the New York Post to let it all hang out. If you need a reminder of what they’re capable of doing when a New York team has a big playoff matchup looming, reacquaint yourself with their Star Wars-themed Jets pullout cover from last year. What did they have in store now that the Giants, seemingly peaking at the right time, are facing off against the Packers (the team they beat to reach their last Super Bowl)? Via Jimmy Traina, feast your eyes:

We’re guessing the pun (a good one, for the record) came to mind before the image of Eli as Rambo. No offense to Eli – he’s become quite a good quarterback, one most teams would gladly take if they could – but picturing him as Rambo doesn’t come naturally. Take that photo, for instance, in which his facial expression doesn’t suggest “murderous rage” as much as “looking at something gross.” Of course, that only makes this entire cover spectacle better. And if he can somehow coolly lead his squad to the upset on Sunday, Eli will make the Post look almost prophetic.
