NFL Blitz Is Back

The last time an Blitz game was released, it didn’t have an NFL license. For a sports video game, this is pretty much a kiss of death: instead of playing with Michael Vick or the Washington Redskins, you were forced to use “Ron Mexico” or the “Washington Redhawks.” This is about as depressing as watching replacement players play during a strike, and fans noticed.
But things have changed since 2008′s Blitz: The League. EA Sports, makers of the Madden games and the only video game company that has an NFL license, has taken the reins. A new Blitz game, scheduled for release on January 3rd, 2012, will feature cartoonishly oversized players, 1st-and-30s with 7-on-7 teams, the announcer from NBA Jam, and zombies. Most importantly, it’ll feature actual teams and players.
In other words: Blitz is back.
