Worst Band Ever Not Sure Why Lions Fans Don’t Want Them Performing At Halftime On Thanksgiving

Nickelback is playing at halftime of the Packers-Lions game tomorrow – this despite an online petition to try to stop them, signed by over 50,000. On the one hand, the petition failed: Nickelback’s playing, after all. On the other, it was a rousing success: Nickelback is very much aware of the petition. Don’t believe us? Have a look:

Credit where it’s due: that’s pretty good. There are few things that paint once-reviled personalities in a more positive light than the ability to laugh at themselves, or at least be self-aware about the fact that they are widely reviled (see Dane Cook on Louie). Watching the video above – Nickelback passes the test with flying colors. Clearly, they’re used to the hate by now, and they can deal with it.

Really, the video is everything people find Nickelback’s music not to be – edgy, irreverent, and not pandering to the widest possible audience. Of course, in a way it does represent Nickelback pandering to the widest possible audience – a targeted shot at the hearts of, essentially, a bunch of people who don’t already like them. Who doesn’t have something to like about Nickelback after this? A savvy PR move if we’ve ever seen one – albeit an excusable one. Maybe the group’s music didn’t win any converts, but we’ll be damned if dressing up like Tom Selleck doesn’t forgive a lot.
