Does A Healthy Rob Gronkowski Make This Hail Mary Catch And Win The Super Bowl?

We’ll never know. Because the Rob Gronkowski that was out there came up just short, and as a result, the New York Giants are Super Bowl champions – thanks to a thrilling victory over the Patriots – for the second time in five years. Don’t get us wrong: it wouldn’t have been an easy play no matter what. But if he’s moving around out there a little better (he didn’t look so great running down the field, but he was so close at the end that it might not have made a difference)…who knows?

Really, the fact that it was as close as it was is a credit to Tom Brady, for giving his receivers a chance. And it’s strange to think about this: the story if this game is deservedly Eli Manning and the Giants, for getting it done once again in a season that at times looked lost. But if the trajectory of that batted ball could have been just a couple feet different from what it was, we’re talking about the Patriots winning in the most incredible ending in football history. But they didn’t. Tonight belongs to the Giants…and so, improbably, does the 2011 NFL season. What a game. Video below, by CJ Fogler.
