There Is A Petition On The White House Website To Make The Monday After The Super Bowl A National Holiday

We the People has so far been a shaky experiment for the Obama administration. The website, created so the laymen of America could easily file grievances straight to the White House, has given us more frivolousness than not (secession, the Death Star), but here’s one that actually might tickle our fancy: a request to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.
The petition, which was created by fantasy football website 4for4.com, is straightforward enough. Make post-Super Bowl Monday a national holiday so the 100 million-plus who stay up late on a Sunday night pounding brews, gorging on nachos and watching football get a day to recover from their hangover and food coma.
In 2012, an estimated 111 million American citizens watched the Super Bowl, making it the most-viewed television broadcast in history and one of the largest location-independent gatherings of American people to date.
We at 4for4.com Fantasy Football petition the Obama Administration to consider declaring the Monday following Super Bowl Sunday a national holiday. By doing so, the Obama Administration can promote camaraderie among the American people, keep the streets safer for our children on Sunday night and Monday morning, promote a productive workplace when work resumes on Tuesday, and honor the most popular event in modern American culture.
This actually makes perfect sense. Regardless of the food hangover stuff, it would keep drunk drivers off the road without the added pressure of having to go home so you can wake up for work the next day. It would also get rid of a day of work that is usually wasted on sleep deprivation anyway. This will likely never, ever happen, but it’s fun to wonder.
But if you have any shred of dignity and hope, you will tack your John Hancock onto this petition. As of Jan. 16, the amount of signatures necessary to get government attention bumped from 25,000 way up to 100,000 (you know, due to frivolous things like secession and the Death Star). As of 8:15 p.m. ET Thursday night, the petition is hovering 2,000 signatures, clearly way off the 100K it needs to accrue by Feb. 23. So get cracking, America!
