Titans Now Suing USC Over Assistant Coach Hiring Flap

This is getting serious. USC coach Lane Kiffin said in a statement that he spoke with Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher about Kiffin’s controversial hiring of Titans assistant Kennedy Pola, but the Titans organization isn’t letting the incident go so easily.

In fact, in a surprising move, they’re suing, alleging “tortuous conduct” on USC’s part, as well as that they “‘maliciously’ interfer[ed] with [Pola's] contract.” More from the writeup at The Tennessean:

The lawsuit was filed in Davidson County Chancery Court and it claims Pola breached his contract with the Titans after being induced by Kiffin.

We’ll be honest – we initially misread “Chancery Court” as “Chicanery Court,” which, given the Titans’ claims, was all too fitting. It’s also interesting that this dustup between a college and pro team comes at a time when there’s plenty of other controversy between the NCAAs and the NFL, but for a much different reason – agents overstepping their bounds.

Needless to say, this suit could get ugly if it drags out – which makes us believe it won’t. We contacted USC Sports Information Director Tim Tessalone for comment on the proceedings, but he said, “At this point, we don’t have sufficient information on the lawsuit to comment.”

So for now, all that’s left to do is marvel at the fact that the Titans took their grievances this far – and at the bad blood that just keeps piling up between Kiffin and the state of Tennessee.
