“Ben’s Rape-Free Weekend”: The Onion’s PTI Spoof Is Brilliant

“Get Out of My Face,” The Onion’s satire of PTI (and every sports-shouty show ever), is everything their ill-fated Comedy Central show Onion SportsDome, and the similarly short-lived Sports Show with Norm MacDonald, should have been.

Yes, the fact that it’s online means that it can take things farther (Ben Roethlisberger raping a member of the Baltimore Ravens in front of millions of people constitues “farther”), but, more importantly, it takes these farther-reaching things and makes them digestable: the clip below is only 2 minutes and 53 seconds long.

The downfall of the aforementioned Comedy Central shows was that it proved impossible to joke about sports on TV for a half hour and hold onto an audience. But 2:53 in an embeddable online video? That works, and works brilliantly.
