Tim Tebow Now On Twitter, Nation Awaits Tweets With Bated Breath
In what may be the biggest “athlete gets a Twitter” news since @KingJames launched back in July, Tim Tebow is on board. He just started tweeting a couple hours ago, but already passed 5,000 followers – and depending on when you read this, the number may be much higher.
The account is not officially verified yet, but CNBC’s sports business guru Darren Rovell already has the lowdown on Tebow’s expanded social media presence, so it’s safe to say this is legit.
Rovell said the Twitter account is an early product of Tebow’s new marketing arm, XV Enterprises (XV = 15…get it?). XV is run by Tebow’s brother Robby and Angel Gonzalez, a friend of the family. Robby Tebow explained why his brother’s in good hands with him and Gonzalez running things:
“We interviewed the top 15 marketing agencies in the world and went through their dog and pony show. They were big and smooth and wore three-piece suits and some of them are very good at what they do. But…when it came to negotiating we could do the job as good as they could and we weren’t necessarily worrying about that 20 percent cut.”
Safe to say Robby Tebow and Gonzalez have a big job ahead of them, since with even the slightest on-field success, Tim Tebow will remain a hot commodity for the foreseeable future. And they’re not stopping there – they want other clients, too.
As for that Twitter account, here’s its output so far, discounting a retweet of Rovell’s story:
Thanks for all the years of support – I’m really excited about being able to keep in touch with all of you on twitter and facebook
Be sure to check out my new website www.TimTebow.com
Clearly nothing earth-shattering so far, but for someone charismatic with a clear message they want to spread like Tebow, Twitter is pretty much the ideal tool, and may lead to interesting things down the road. Oh, and he’s gained 3,000 followers since I started writing this.
