ESPN Analyst Is Not Happy With Coach’s Brett Favre Criticism

The Green Bay Packers got a key victory over the Minnesota Vikings last night, holding on for a 28-24 win. Among the key factors in the game: three interceptions by Brett Favre. But more than the interceptions themselves, the postgame story became the reaction of coach Brad Childress to those interceptions – and ESPN’s reaction to his reaction.

Here’s Childress’ postgame presser. He doesn’t call Favre out by name, but he says plenty of things like, “Hard to win when you turn it over three times” and “You can’t throw it to them; you gotta play within the confines of our system.” Noted.

It was especially noted, though, by ESPN’s Trent Dilfer. And if Favre was anywhere near as upset with Childress as Dilfer was (and don’t forget, Dilfer’s perspective is that of a former NFL quarterback), look out.

Dilfer said that while Favre certainly deserved his share of the blame for the Vikings’ loss, he lauded Favre for taking that blame and not pointing out others’ mistakes (as he claimed Childress was doing…and the coach did spend an awful lot of time talking about not just turnovers, but officiating). He also lauded Favre for being “professional” – in contrast to the example he said Childress set.

All in all, Childress got ripped a lot worse by Dilfer than he ripped Favre. You can watch some of Favre’s remarks below, and we’ll also post Childress’ and Dilfer’s remarks if and when video becomes available.

I keep reading Brad’s quotes trying to see where he calls out Favre but don’t

He just says things any HC would say after a loss

“He also lauded Favre for being ‘professional’” has me giggling.

C’mon Trent you would have us believe that Brett Favre ,H.O.F. that he is, is bigger than the team . Chilly is the coach and he should bench him. It is job saving time and with all those weapons they should be doing alot better. Tavaris Jackson gets no respect because of the job he did 2 years ago, but we forget about the playoff game he had where he showed he can learn and play in the NFL Favre’s presence past last year has only stagnated Jackson, who I think with; Randy Moss, Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson, TBA Sidney Rice (what three teams have this amount of speed and power) can do alot better than than they are now. Don’t let Favre’s past keep the team from being successful. So yes he should bench him. Jackson will do the job and Favre would have no other choice but to acquiesce to said success or look jealous. Favre tried it it didn’t work he is not the superman who can skip bond and timing time and come out and look great. If Favre was not about Favre he would have realized this and benched himself. To suggest that he gives them their best chance and their offense has looked like it has just underscores the love affair with Farve that will waste an opportunity in a weak weak conference that is still up for grabs. Blame the coaching all you want but if the triggerman is not looking where he is supposed to because he feels like it the coach should put someone in there who can not only move around, doesn’t have old man issues, and most importantly of all do what he is told. I will and should humble Brett Favre.
