Week 5 On The Waiver Wire, Continued: A Few More Moves To Consider

You can thank us now. Officially. Just head on over to RotoExperts.com and drop us a line. Last week we told you to pick up Jackie Battle. You did, and now he is one of the hottest pickups in fantasy football. We also told you to cut Robert Meachem. He did not catch a pass in Week 4. Maybe we should drop the San Diego Chargers a line, thanking them for making me and you look good. And good news: we’re keep you ahead of the competition again this week. See below, and proceed to dominate:

1.Add: Kevin Kolb, QB, Cardinals

Proof the fantasy football world is totally wacky: Kolb was a laughingstock in the preseason and went undrafted in most leagues. Now he is moving the Cardinals offense with regularity and also has them boasting an undefeated record. Kolb is playing like a solid Fantasy backup right now, and he is looking like an answer if you need one. He’s a must-add in two-QB leagues if he is somehow still available.

2.Cut: Matt Cassel, QB, Chiefs

The Chiefs look terrible, and while the quarterback does not deserve all of the blame, he sure looks bad. Cassel threw three interceptions in Week 4 and there is suddenly buzz that he may be on the verge of losing his job. When there are reports that Brady Quinn may be getting some first-team reps, it’s time to jump ship on a guy in Fantasy. Maybe you have already cut Cassel, in which case we applaud you. Loudly.

3.Add: William Powell, RB, Cardinals

Beanie Wells is out for an extended period and Ryan Williams is not cut out for a heavy workload. The Cardinals lack a respectable ground game right now, and the answer is to have Powell complement Williams, as one is a more physical runner and the other is a slasher/speed guy. The Cardinals have to be smart enough to see that they should give Powell a shot. If not, they will be 4-4 as quickly as they were 4-0.

4.Add: Vick Ballard, RB, Colts

Call this a hunch or gut feeling – sometimes they help you succeed in Fantasy Football. Donald Brown is the definition of mediocrity, and he has often dealt with injury issues in the past. If Brown goes down any time soon, and he may, Ballard will get his shot to prove he is a determined, hard runner who can add more offensive balance in Indianapolis.

5.Add: Brandon Bolden, RB, Patriots

He has quickly emerged as a viable complement to Stevan Ridley, and he’ll also take some goal-line carries away from him. Bolden has speed and spunk, and complements the inside running of Ridley well. Bolden may be unreliable as the Patriots will still have weeks when they steer away from their RBs, but running back depth is hard to find these days, and you have to take any possible guy with upside that you can.

6.Cut: Mark Ingram, RB, Saints

This guy is already looking like a bust just a few games into his second NFL season. He has come through with identical stat lines of 11 yards on five carries in his past two games. Ingram has been stuffed consistently on short yardage attempts and has looked uninspired when he gets limited work. The Saints have no running game right now and may regret drafting him. You can cut him now, though, sever all ties and move forward.

7.Add: James Jones, WR, Packers

You may be resistant to this move, because Jones has been maddeningly inconsistent in the past. But Greg Jennings’ groin continues to be an issue and the Packers take on the Colts this week. Jones is a matchup play, and the matchup is very enticing this week. You won’t start him regularly, but there are byes and potential injuries to consider, and you can at least pop him in occasionally when you have to.

8.Add: Chaz Schilens, WR, Jets

This is a shot in the dark, but with the potential to pay off. The Jets have looked awful on offense, and are under heavy pressure to pump some life into that unit. Schilens is a veteran who has often been on the verge of contributing before, but injuries have sidetracked him too often. Schilens is healthy now and the Jets desperately need a remotely reliable pass-catcher. Take the flier and the chance.

9.Add: Domenik Hixon, WR, Giants

Hakeem Nicks may miss more time, and Hixon stepped in with a 114-yard outing against the Eagles. All Eli Manning needs is a warm body at the No. 2 WR spot and he’ll get that body the ball. Hixon will contribute as long as he is healthy and Nicks is out. That may be a short window, as Hixon's been oft-injured, but you can at least use him for a week or two if you must.

10.Add: Leonard Hankerson, WR, Redskins

Hankerson caught seven balls this past week and that is a major sign of good things to come. We have already seen Hankerson flash some downfield gear, as he caught a 68-yard TD pass in Week 2. Hankerson is about to burst onto the scene as a prime target for Robert Griffin III. Grab him now before he becomes a hotter waiver add next week. He could be a cheaper version of Antonio Brown.

11.Cut: Jacob Tamme, TE, Broncos

He has not registered more than 43 receiving yards in a game this year, and too many other Broncos are emerging at the position. Plus, Joel Dreessen is Peyton Manning’s preferred TE target for end zone scores. Some Fantasy types expected Tamme to bust out this year because he used to play with Manning in Indianapolis, and Peyton used to throw to his TE a lot in those days. Well, Tamme is no Dallas Clark, and we’re not in Indy anymore.
