You’re Better Than This, Steel City: Pittsburgh To Host Most Pathetic Rally Ever

Apparently the city of Pittsburgh is really bitter that the Steelers didn’t win the Super Bowl this year — or more specifically, that it didn’t get a parade.

That being said, whoever is in charge of orchestrating these … events … has decided to go ahead and host a celebration anyway — for what is easily the most ridiculous reason in the history of over-the-top, unnecessary revelry.

The city of Pittsburgh will hold a rally at noon Thursday to honor Hines Ward‘s victory in ABC-TV’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition.

Yes, some people are presumably going to take the day off from work to celebrate their wide receiver’s win in a reality T.V. show. If that’s not a sign of the Apocalypse, we don’t know what is. We certainly don’t recall Apolo Ohno getting this kind of treatment, or Dallas rolling out the red carpet for Emmitt Smith when he and partner Cheryl Burke took home the top prize. So what makes Pittsburgh so special?

According to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl:

“City residents and the Steelers Nation have contacted my office asking for the city to properly thank our hometown hero for once-again shining the spotlight on Pittsburgh.”

In an effort to lend some credibility to the cause and at least pretend it has something to do with football:

Fans are encouraged to wear black and gold and bring Terrible Towels to the rally.

Now, we’re all about finding any excuse to party and leak potentially compromising images to the world at large, but… this is just wrong.

I’m sorry, but this article it’s self is pointless. There’s nothing wrong with holding a rally for Hines. It’s not like they are giving him parade for it. If this is just to make the people who feel threaten by the idea feel good about this article, then I feel sad for them. And to be truthful this was already planned after he won. If they are okay with it, then why question it? You know what’s unnecessary, seeing people complain about it. That’s what’s unnecessary. And who said they was giving him a parade? Uh, check your facts sweetie no one said anything about parade. A small rally isn’t trying to make up for a SB loss. Who said anything about that? But you assume that, that’s the case for this rally. Just cause they ask them to wear their Black & Gold gear. Honey, people wear their Steeler gear here all the time, I don’t see how this makes any difference. People hat the steelers in general, but steeler fans way outnumber them!” For some reason, sports people felt
really threatened and uncomfortable by Hines being in DWTS in general
too and I don’t get that! I mean when it comes down to it
sports is just another form of entertainment as DWTS is! There’s just
more money generated in sports to hide what it really is!

Obviously, you’re not from Pittsburgh or a part of Steeler Nation and you didn’t do any research for this article. This RALLY (not a parade) has nothing to do with the Super Bowl. Deserei is right: Pittsburgh is all Steelers, all the time. Steelers gear is sported year-round. We don’t need an excuse to support our team or any player. You can hate all you want. We got 6.

And this is the problem. It IS all Steelers, all the time in Pittsburgh. The problem is the frame of reference.

To Steeler fans in Pittsburgh it’s just a normal, expected consequence of Hines Ward winning a contest. To anyone outside the sphere of NFL/Steeler worship this is an obscene self-congratultory waste of time, money, and resources.

The loyalty of Steeler fans isn’t in question. Their priorities and collective intelligence, however, is.

Get a life and get off Pittsburgh’s back. It’s a rally- just a rally. With so many horrid news stories, one would breathe a sigh of relief to hear somthing light and positive. It’s just a rally.

Dude, it’s just a rally, geez! Besides, Sports is a big part of the economy in Pittsburgh, not to mention Health Care, Medical Technology and banking. Plus it has good schools and is one of the best places to raise a family. It has been rated the Most Livable City in the US at least four times. So, it seems like Pittsburgh knows what it’s doing!

Also it’s not just about Steeler Nation, it’s about the City of Pittsburgh, which deserves to be self-congratulatory sometimes… New York, LA, seem to be able to be self-congratulatory and no one criticizes them too much. Give the small metropolis a break!!!
