If you want to subscribe to a religion, community or personal philosophy that espouses that view you’re entitled to do so.  But what is your justification for criticizing, or believing the state should deny marriage rights to, two loving people who obviously do not share your opinion?

Using the length of time a custom has been around is not an argument. Slavery has been around for almost the entire life of modern man, ~250,000 years; are you good with that ?  Marriage has evolved in different ways in different cultures, including marriage between the same sexes, multiple spouses’
group marriages, etc.  And many historians believe the origin of marriage was the male need for assurance of the paternity of the children.

As someone who went to Catholic school for a long time I think I can some it up this way. Jesus taught love, tolerance and empathy. If you have to hate anyone for what they do that doesn’t hurt anyone you are doing it wrong.

I don’t generally like to confuse a good fight with, you know, facts, but I’m about as Republican as they come, Conservative as hell, and a big ol’ homo (I don’t think I’m a big enough sissy to be, um, “gay”).

Although the Liberals would like you to think so, the two don’t necessarily cancel one another out.  Also, I don’t believe in gay marriage, but I absolutely don’t believe in DOMA.  And, no, I don’t call my “partner” my partner.  He’s my boyfriend.  And sometimes, if he’s being an especially good boyfriend, I call him my Husband (actually, I call him “Mah Huzzbunn!”), and he calls me HIS Husband.  For the record, since he’s not as funny as I am, he almost never calls me his Huzzbun.  Although he should.

Finally, I’m not 100% convinced that Canadians know all THAT much more about love anent sexual orientation than Americans do, but far be it from me to say that too loud. . .I don’t want to be responsible for starting a war between us and our Northern Sister, which she would almost surely win. . . .Canadians may be smaller in number than the population of the US, but they’re really REALLY scrappy.
