Matt Hendricks And The Most Grisly Sports Photo We’ve Ever Seen

What you see at left is the ear of the Washington Capitals’ Matt Hendricks. It’s all stitched up because over the weekend, he took a hard (accidental) shot from teammate Alex Ovechkin that missed the net and caught the glass…and then caught Hendricks. Hard. Well, you can see it caught him hard – he had to get all those stitches. But how hard, exactly?

Well, another photo gives an idea of just what kind of shot Hendricks took. This photo was taken before he got stitched up. It is graphic, more than a bit cringe-worthy (even after having seen it several times), and paints a very clear picture of how much pain he must have been in at the moment. If you are squeamish, you do not want to see this picture. You may think you want to, but you don’t. Consider this your warning.

Consider this another warning. Seriously, if you do not like revolting images, this one’s not for you. Got it? Good. Here goes:

See the image of the pre-stitched ear here. Again: gross.

Well, there you go. We warned you. We really did. We tried our best. Hendricks described it as “a tough night’s sleep” after sustaining that injury. Um, no kidding. The crazy thing, though: he went and played the next day. And then, a couple days after that, he took another shot to the head that left him bleeding all over the ice again. Hockey players are tough, if you didn’t know.
