The Civic Arena, known affectionately as The Igloo, was home ice to the Pittsburgh Penguins for 43 years. But when the Pens finally moved across the street to a new arena in 2010, it was time (after some long legal battles) to say goodbye. It took nine months for the arena to be completely demolished, but this time-lapse video gives us a sweet half-minute rendition of that demolition.
Here’s “The House That Lemieux Built” being reduced to a pile of dirt — a pile of dirt that will someday become a parking lot (or perhaps, one day, an “entertainment complex“, whatever that means). It’s the circle of (urban) life:
