Michael Jordan’s Dorm Room Was Impossibly Clean

This is a photo of University of North Carolina undergrad Michael Jordan, taken in his dorm room in 1983. Jordan would go on to become a basketball player of note.

There are a few things we immediately noticed about his college living quarters.

It is very, very clean. Like, scary clean. We’re sure this has something to do with the fact that there’s a professional photoshoot going on in it, but we’re also sure that a psychotically perfectionist personality like Jordan’s wouldn’t allow a sloppy room, college junior or no college junior.

Michael Jordan: fan of CBS Sports. There is a giant CBS Sports logo hanging on Jordan’s wall. We have no idea why.

Michael Jordan: fan of Marques Johnson. There is also a poster of then-Milwaukee Buck Marques Johnson hanging on Jordan’s wall. This seems like an odd choice for the future greatest of all time — shouldn’t he have someone equally iconic up on his wall, like Magic Johnson or Julius Erving? — until you remember that Johnson was a 5-time NBA All-Star. Also, if you look closely, you’ll notice a Kareem Abdul Jabbar poster is being obscured by…

The giant umbrella that someone convinced Michael Jordan to hold. At least he’s having fun with it.

That boombox. That boombox is sweet, and made sweeter by the fact that Jordan has headphones plugged into it. Headphones plugged into a music device that isn’t portable is a concept that doesn’t compute with me.

There is a photo of Jordan’s iconic, game-winning shot in the 1982 NCAA Tournament championship game. Just above the boombox. You have to show girls something when you get back to the room, don’t you?
