First of all, let me just say that there is no way the NFL is letting Aldon Smith back on the Raiders until they know for sure where that team will be playing in 2018. Cam you imagine Smith working and living in Las Vegas? “Fire? Your good friend gasoline is here to see you. Now you two be back by midnight and don’t get into trouble.”
Smith was detained by San Francisco police today after a car in which he was a passenger slammed into an unmarked police car at 8:20 a.m. There were no fatalities, and Smith was determined to be under the influence at the time, as was the driver (believed to be his girlfriend). Another male passenger was released at the scene.
Smith was released later in the afternoon when it was determined he was sober. He was charged with public intoxication.
Goodell would be arrested for negligence if he let Smith play in Vegas. Still on double secret probation for a domestic incident in 2015, Smith had been petitioning the league to let him back in. He had been arrested four times during four seasons with the 49ers, who released him in 2015. Overall he’s been arrested seven times.
Smith apparently thinks it’s no big deal.
