No matter what your feelings are on Tim Tebow, you have to admit that he’d make a great prom date. He’s good-looking, kind, and seems to get along with everybody. (He might not put out much, but that’s another story). Rachel Bird of Iowa wanted a piece of the Jets (backup?) QB for one night, but couldn’t get a response from Tebow in time. So she took matters into her own hands.
With prom approaching, Bird attempted to reach out to Tebow. She tried tweeting him to ask for his hand for the evening, but got no response. As April rolled around, she was still without a date.
So, after first being discouraged by the high prices at Staples, she decided to make a cardboard cut-out of Tebow and bring it with her on prom night.
Here’s how it all came together, according to the Sioux City Journal:
She got the discounted picture at Staples. She and her mother then found a giant piece of cardboard in the trash bin behind Clarks Hardware in Kingsley. Rachel glued the picture to the cardboard as Bob fashioned back supports of wood and a wooden handle…
Everyone laughed when Rachel Bird showed up at friend DeAndra Mahrt’s home for pre-prom pictures. Her classmates HAD to include Tebow in group photos.
Classmates convinced Bird to enter the gym as a “couple” at the grand march. She decided to do it. Announcer Scott Bahrke introduced her last. “Rachel Bird,” Bahrke said. “Escorted by Tim Tebow.”
So, all things considered, it sounds like it was a pretty good night for the young lady. She didn’t have a date, but was able to have fun with her friends (and a cardboard cut-out) anyway. She had a good sense of humor about it all, cracking jokes like: “He was a cheap date, and he didn’t talk much.” Haha — all in good, corn-fed fun.
But seriously, men of Bird’s high school, no one wanted to take this girl to the prom? I’m not going to start discussing the attractiveness of high school girls on this website, because that would be weird, but she seems very funny and thoughtful. She also plays basketball, golf, volleyball and is a cheerleader. I get the feeling a girl this resourceful and laid-back is going places, while those who passed her up will rue the day they let a cardboard version of Tim Tebow stand in for them.
