Baltimore Ravens defensive great Ray Lewis questioned the passion of the team’s current quarterback Joe Flacco on Fox Sports 1’s Speak For Yourself.

“Gifted? Absolutely. Passionate about what he do? I’ve never seen that,” Lewis said on the show, hosted by Colin Cowherd and Jason Whitlock.

According to The Baltimore Sun, Flacco responded to his former teammate by attributing what Lewis saw as a lack of passion to just his personality:

Teammates supported Flacco with calls of “I got your back, Joe” as he answered reporters’ questions, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Ravens reporter Jeff Zrebiec.

Coach John Harbaugh also defended his quarterback’s leadership in a statement tweeted by Ravens director of public relations Patrick Gleason:

Lewis and Flacco won Super Bowl XLVII together with the Ravens in 2013. So the former middle linebacker’s comments are surprising and might make things a little awkward the next time Lewis is invited back to the Baltimore locker room.
