Celtic Midfielder Dylan McGeough Was Knocked Out Cold In Midair Challenging For A Header

Real Madrid handled Celtic with ease in today’s World Football Challenge match at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, defeating the opposing Scottish side 2-0. But the game took a frightening turn in the 72nd minute when Celtic Midfielder Dylan McGeough rose up to challenge for an airborne ball. McGeough did not raise his arms to jockey for position, as he thought he was by himself, so Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin’s flying shoulder landed a direct blow to McGeough’s head. McGeough was immediately knocked unconscious and every player on the pitch called for medical help.

It was quite the startling sight, seeing McGeough lose consciousness in midair and lay completely motionless on the ground. Medical personnel reached into his mouth to open up his throat and made repeated efforts to awaken the knocked out McGeough. It took a few minutes before he finally regained consciousness, but even after he showed signs of life, his movements were small. He was eventually carted off on a stretcher and play resumed. But the intensity of the match was not the same as every player lightened their challenges and just wanted to make it through the match unharmed.
