Ladies’ Night: Turkish Soccer Team Plays Match In Front Of 45,000 Women, Doesn’t Allow Men In Stands
After repeated acts of fan violence, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) decided it had a testosterone problem. So they banned men from attending matches of sanctioned teams. The first match played under the new rules, which permit teams to admit only women and children under 12, took place Tuesday in Istanbul between Fenerbahce and Manisaspor — and here’s what it looked like.
45,000 women and children attended the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The match was such a success, with both stadium operators and players from both sides responding positively to the female presence, that the TFF is now allocating free tickets to women in order to increase their attendance, and, presumably, providing a calming influence to male spectators.
