Well, that was a pretty quick penance period. Eight months after being fired by Arkansas following revelations of affair-having, mistress-job-getting, and a coverup involving the both of them and a motorcycle accident, Bobby Petrino is back in college football: he’ll be introduced as the new head coach at Western Kentucky later today. And for Petrino, as always, winning football games will be the easy part.

We’re a forgiving sort, us Americans. We love a good redemption story. People overcoming their own mistakes and demons makes us feel like nothing is impossible. It inspires us. And the people who author such personal stories? We love them… but we’d better see them suffer first.

Every detail that’s come out about the Bobby Petrino-Jessica Dorrell-Arkansas-motorcycle scandal has made the story sound worse and worse, and there might be no one it’s been tougher on than the man who was engaged to Dorrell, Josh Morgan.

According to a tweet from ESPN’s Joe Schad, Bobby Petrino is out as Arkansas’ football coach. The news will presumably be made official at a news conference later this evening. Wow.

Via Fox News: “Six months of telephone records show that former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino was in frequent contact with his mistress, including conversations before their motorcycle crash that led to his firing.”
