Tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins were only on the ice for 27 seconds before Marion Gaborik scored his third goal of the game to give New York the 4-3 overtime win. You know, because any time you can create an offensive zone turnover, break away with speed, shoot the puck on net and bat the rebound out of the air and into the goal for a hat trick, you do it.

Welcome to “What The Hell Happened Last Night?” in which we at SportsGrid attempt to anser that very question, at least as it relates to the world of sport. And last night, we had a marquee Sunday Night Football matchup, and a slate of six NBA games that were… something less than marquee. Of course, the actual Sunday Night Football game itself wound up not having too much excitement, either, but it’s all worth revisiting. Join us as we do, won’t you?

Lately, the NHL has done nothing but let fans down. The second lockout in a decade. Missing games. Players and owners still far apart on the terms of any potential deal. Fans need cheering up. And what better to cheer them up (especially Bruins fans) than Boston left wing Milan Lucic starring in a commercial for a local credit? The answer: Milan Lucic starring in an awful, awful commercial for a local credit union. [Puck Daddy]

You know Bruins goalie Tim Thomas is taking this coming season off “to reconnect with… friends, family and faith.” Apparently, he’s also taking the time to work on refining his “polarizing Facebook post” skills.

The Bruins’ Stanley Cup defense came to an abrupt end last night, as they bowed out to the seventh-seeded Washington Capitals in a 2-1 Game 7 overtime heartbreaker. Unless you’re a Bruins fans, the ending was tremendous. Some of the aftermath, though, was not.

With 9.5 seconds left and the Bruins down by a goal, the Capitals lined up for the face-off, which was won by Boston. But as you can see, the clock takes approximately 5 seconds to actually start, and ends up with the Bruins nearly scoring as the clock expires.

Getting hit in the groin is like going to the DMV, or finding out your dog has died: it really sucks. And, perhaps to prove a point from earlier, getting a possibly-deliberate jab in the crotch from an opponent takes away from the joy of the game.

We understand the excitement, Bruins fans. Your team just successfully opened its Stanley Cup defense in thrilling fashion. Yell, jump around, go crazy. Just maybe be a little more careful while you do all that.
