Chad Johnson’s arrest spelled the end of his Dolphins tenure, but it didn’t mean Hard Knocks was finished with him. In the show’s 2012 finale last night, the program followed Johnson as he attempts to work his way back into football – but don’t expect to come away feeling inspired.

The fourth installment of this season’s Hard Knocks brought us a few noteworthy moments Tuesday night. But none were quite as peculiar as the quiz Matt Moore gave Ryan Tannehill regarding the NFL’s divisional makeup. It’s one Ryan might want to have back.

Matt Moore’s hopes couldn’t have been too high. Yes, he performed admirably for the Dolphins last season, but the team took Ryan Tannehill in the first round of the NFL Draft, and taking a quarterback with your first-round pick sends a message to the other quarterbacks on your roster. That message: “We see our future, and you’re not in it.” Earlier this week, the Dolphins told Moore he won’t be their starter this year… and last night, we saw that moment for ourselves. After Chad Johnson’s unceremonious exit from the Miami Dolphins following a domestic violence charge — an exit that was captured by HBO’s Hard Knocks cameras, and which we posted on this morning — the show’s producers were probably wondering who would pick up all of the colorful slack Johnson left in his wake.

Enter offensive line coach Jim Turner, a former Marine with an accent, a penchant for expletives, and a knack for crude drawings. [KSK]

When Chad Johnson was cut by the Dolphins following an alleged domestic violence incident with soon-to-be-former wife Evelyn Lozada, there were many reasons to think what we were looking at was a sad situation all around. But there was one reason in particular to think the story might also be compelling from a dramatic point of view: the Dolphins, and by extension, Johnson, being featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks. You’ve probably heard the news by now, that our favorite Hard Knocks character might not be in episode two or three due to a spat with his wife in a car. According to police reports, Johnson and his wife began to argue in their car when the two bopped heads. According to Johnson, the head-to-head collision was accidental. According to his wife, Johnson head-butted her.

Lauren Tannehill — as we predicted — stole the show on HBO’s Hard Knocks last night. It took an eternity nine minutes of airtime before her first appearance, and she wasn’t on all that much, but the fact that she was on, and wasn’t dumb or mean made fantasizing viewers quite happy.
