After Chad Johnson’s unceremonious exit from the Miami Dolphins following a domestic violence charge — an exit that was captured by HBO’s Hard Knocks cameras, and which we posted on this morning — the show’s producers were probably wondering who would pick up all of the colorful slack Johnson left in his wake.

Lauren Tannehill — as we predicted — stole the show on HBO’s Hard Knocks last night. It took an eternity nine minutes of airtime before her first appearance, and she wasn’t on all that much, but the fact that she was on, and wasn’t dumb or mean made fantasizing viewers quite happy. HBO has reportedly approached the New York Jets about doing another season of Hard Knocks, the documentary style mini-series that follows an NFL team through training camp and captures their more candid (and explicit) team-building moments. HBO is pushing hard, and Jets owner Woody Johnson is on board as he seeks to steal some August headlines from the Yankees, Mets, and Giants. However, the Jets owner is facing some unlikely opposition to the proposal.

HBO’s low-rated Sunday night drama “Luck” has been canceled. This isn’t necessarily a surprise: the Dustin-Hoffman-led horse racing show plodded along like an overweight gelding, and despite an all-star cast, it never really showed any signs of picking up the pace. No, what’s surprising about Luck’s cancellation is what caused it.

Thanks to HBO’s 24/7 series on the Flyers and Rangers, Philly goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has become an internet sensation. Last night, he offered more wisdom, this time about how his dogs compare to beautiful women.

Entourage, HBO’s Sunday night scenester porn for the career-driven bro, is in its final season. And although the show is one of the more superficial things you’ll see on TV (this isn’t necessarily a bad thing; sometimes it’s fun to watch things that have little to no reliance on plot), the last few episodes are giving the illusion that life might not end up okay for Vince and the gang: careers are on the line, divorces are getting messy, and exes are pregnant and hateful. Entourage’s entourage will, of course, end up unscathed, but the show is creating the required sense doubt.

The saddest casualty of this NFL lockout will forever be remembered as HBO’s 2011 training camp docu-series that never was. Over the weekend, SI’s Peter King confirmed that there will no Hard Knocks this season. It’s something we assumed for awhile, but is still disappointing to hear.
