The Open Championship (or British Open) ended yesterday, with Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke emerging victorious. Congratulations to Clarke: he joins a select group of golfers to win their first major in their 40s. And congratulations to us, the viewers: we can now go a year without seeing an Open Championship course.

This is nothing against British golf itself, mind you: the Open Championship is a legendary tournament, one of the year’s biggest. Many of golf’s great moments have happened there. But it’s safe to say none of those moments involved anyone saying, “This is a beautiful golf course.”

Rory McIlroy’s embrace with his father Gerry after winning the U.S. Open was a heartwarming moment…but we bet Gerry’s heart will be especially warmed if his son wins the Open Championship next month.

No drama to this one: the final round of the 2010 Open Championship ended just how it started…with South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen leading comfortably.

You never know what you’re getting from John Daly. You might get fantastic golf, you might get absurdity. But on some lucky days, you’ll get both. Today was one of those days.

A while ago Phil Mickelson had a shot to claim golf’s world No. 1 ranking – but he missed the cut at the Colonial. This weekend once again gave Mickelson a shot at No. 1 – and he missed the cut at the Scottish Open. Ouch.
