The Open Championship: Good. U.K. Golf Courses: Not So Much.

The Open Championship (or British Open) ended yesterday, with Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke emerging victorious. Congratulations to Clarke: he joins a select group of golfers to win their first major in their 40s. And congratulations to us, the viewers: we can now go a year without seeing an Open Championship course.

This is nothing against British golf itself, mind you: the Open Championship is a legendary tournament, one of the year’s biggest. Many of golf’s great moments have happened there. But it’s safe to say none of those moments involved anyone saying, “This is a beautiful golf course.”
