Runner Points To God, Track Officials Point To Rulebook, Runner Disqualified
High school track relay team disqualified from going to state meet because runner points to sky as he crosses finish line. The assumption is that he was pointing to God, and this violates the state’s “no excessive celebration policy”. This also violates my “I’d prefer that state officials not be morons” policy.
Crazed Fan Tries To Tackle Runner Mid-Race, Runner Somehow Still Wins Race
Safe to say, we’ve seen more instances of needless physical aggression at track and field events over the last couple days than we’d seen before in our entire lives. Yesterday brought video of the brawl at a high school meet in Manhattan, and today comes a truly bizarre incident: Kenyan distance runner Edwin Kipsang Rotich in the middle of a race in Brazil, minding his own business… and then, this. Rotich went on to win the race. Don’t ask us how. [BuzzFeed Sports]
This Is A Brawl At A High School Track Meet. How Do These Things Not Happen More Often?
The footage you see above is from The Hispanic Games, one of the largest high school track meets in the country. The Games took place over the weekend in New York and featured athletes from over 300 schools. And interestingly, the event also featured a fight breaking out. If you’re like me, the idea that a fight would ever take place at a track meet is news to you… but runners get tangled up. Emotions are running high. Shouldn’t this stuff happen all the time? [The Big Lead]
Oscar Pistorius: Olympic Inspiration, Paralympic Goat
Oscar Pistorius was not at his best on Sunday night, losing his first Paralympic race ever in the 200 meters. He didn’t chalk up the loss to having an off-night, or to winner Alan Fonteles Oliverira’s masterful performance, but rather to an alleged advantage the height of his rival’s blades gave him. That kind of unwarranted hurling of Oliverira under the bus is pretty dickish under normal circumstances, but coming from a guy who’s been facing the same exact harsh criticism for years? Come on dude, that’s not very Citius, Altius, Fortius of you. Read more after the jump.
The Story Of A 74-Year-Old Man Getting Killed By A Javelin Will Be The Worst Thing You Hear About Today
We almost feel like we should apologize for sharing this story of a 74-year-old man getting killed by a javelin thrown by a teenager in what was apparently a horrible freak accident, because it is thoroughly depressing all around.
The Olympics Are Over, So Cue The Unsubstantiated Doping Accusations Against Usain Bolt!
Want to get clicks for your online sports column? Tell the world that they’re stupid for not realizing that Usain Bolt is doping… just be sure to include zero hard evidence. The insanity, after the jump.
Usain Bolt Has “No Respect” For Carl Lewis, Who Thinks He Might Be On ‘Roids
Carl Lewis doesn’t like all this Usain Bolt hysteria. He says we shouldn’t get too excited, cause the dude might be juicing. Oh, yeah? Usain has some words for you, fool! See them after the jump.
Lolo Jones Didn’t See Any Of That Rampant Olympic Sexytime Everyone’s Been Going On About
Oh, so you hear all this talk about sex at the Olympics and you assume USA track and field is a bunch of sluts? Well, you’re wrong. Lolo Jones sets the record straight after the jump.
A U.S. Track Runner Became The Most Inspirational Story Of The Olympics After Running 200 Meters With A Broken Leg
In a feat of supernatural courage that could make even a virtual Greg Jennings jealous, U.S. 4x400m relay lead-off man Manteo Mitchell “put the team on his back” Thursday afternoon by finishing his split of the relay even though he broke his leg halfway through his run.
This Drunk Gentleman Threw A Bottle At Usain Bolt Right Before The 100M Final (Video)
Apparently, a drunk fan with great seats at the Olympic men’s 100m final decided to throw his Heineken bottle onto the track, just as the race was starting. He was arrested, and fortunately, it didn’t affect any of the competitors. Video, after the jump.
