David Nalbandian Kicked A Line Judge And Made Him Bleed
Don’t kick line judges, people. At least that’s what we learned today from David Nalbandian, who, in frustration, unleashed a ferocious right-footed strike at the line judge box after being broken in his Aegon Championship finals match today against Marin Cilic. Too bad someone was sitting in the box.
The kick left line judge Andrew McDougall’s left leg marred by a deep one-inch cut, and, even worse, probably ruined his khaki pants. Although he’s probably lucky that Nalbandian led with the side of his foot, as a frontal assault probably would have caused even more damage.
So, what sparked this implosion? After taking the first set 7-6(3), Nalbandian lost his second service game of the second set to fall behind 4-3. Yep, that’s right. He was winning the match. McDougall, at least, took the pain like a man. Although his immediate reaction to the flying right foot of Nalbandian, besides horrific pain, can only be described as “What the fuck?!?!?!”
Nalbandian was immediately disqualified from the match for “unsportsmanlike conduct” and is likely facing a suspension from the ATP.
