Mikhail Youzhny Apologizes For Poor French Open Performance With A Message In The Clay


Mikhail Youzhny struggled against David Ferrer in the French Open on Saturday, culminating in a 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 loss. But the gracious Youzhny, after losing the first eight games of the match, remorsefully apologized to fans with a message dug into the French Open clay, as pictured above.

Youzhny clarified his statement in a post-match interview:

“There was a lot of people. That’s why I write ‘sorry’ — because I can’t show them a nice game,” he explained after his 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 third-round loss. “The way we played in the beginning, it was not really interesting for people.”

And yes, that would be “S-O-R-R-i,” with an “i” and a floating “Y” on top of the “S.” Another valiant effort, but he should probably apologize for that, too.

Luckily enough, Youzhny decided to apologize on behalf of Ferrer as well – his utter domination equally detracted from spectator entertainment:
