Serena Williams Cries While Getting Standing Ovation At Wimbledon, And We’re Just Happy She’s Here
Serena Williams was emotional following her 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 opening round victory over Aravane Rezai at Wimbledon today, and understandably so.
After dispatching Rezai, Serena, who has missed much of the past year due to a variety of health problems, was given a standing ovation from the crowd as she walked off the court. And then she cried, and then we realized that we are so rooting for her to win this tournament.
The defending Wimbledon champion is back after nearly dying (yes, that almost happened) because of blood clots in her lungs that required emergency surgery, and the ovation (and ensuing interview) displayed just how grateful she is to be here. We’re grateful, too.
