Best Super Bowl Ad Ever? A Sneak Peek At Volkswagen’s Mini Darth Vader Commercial

Volkswagen has unveiled their Super Bowl commercial for this Sunday, and by Monday morning, it may have vaulted itself into the discussion as one of the best Super Bowl ads ever. The spot, which SB Nation says will premiere this weekend, features a tiny Darth Vader walking around his home, trying to impose The Force on household objects, but to no avail.

A stationary bike, the family dog, and a baby doll are all unresponsive to the pint-sized Jedi’s attempts at mind control. When the diminutive Sith lord’s father returns home in his Volkswagen, he rushes out to the driveway for one last attempt at imposing his evil will through telepathy.

It’s not that great — they could do better. On the other hand, it’s not as bad as the Routan ads with Brooke Shields.

Volkswagen used to have the best commercials ever, and the best print ads.

If I was in charge, I’d replay the “Green Police” Audi TDI ad from last year’s Super Bowl. Now that was awesome.

This was cute. I wonder how much VW and its ad agency paid to use the copywrited characters and music.

Funny/Cute ad but does very little to nothing in terms of making one want to buy a VW.

I could not even remember the car brand after I had first seen the ad.
