Here’s The 200 Individual Medley Showdown Between Michael Phelps And Ryan Lochte (Caution: Spoilers)

You know the drill: it’s like our Gabby Douglas post from before (which we won’t link here, lest you click on it and are inadvertently spoiled about the women’s all-around gymnastics result). In this post, we’ll have video of the 200-meter individual medley swimming event that just happened before. (Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, of course, were the most prominent competitors in said event.) So, if you don’t want to know what happened, do not read past this point, and avoid this post until you watch the race later on tonight.

So, we good? Prepared to see some spoilers? Well, okay then, let’s get on with it. One more warning…

Spoilers, they’re a-comin’.

Phelps won. Lochte took silver. It’s Phelps’ 16th Olympic gold medal, and third straight in this event. Phelps beat Lochte by .63 seconds, and both Phelps and Lochte finished over a full second ahead of the bronze medalist, Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh.

Yeah, we’ve had some fun at Phelps’ expense around here, and no, he’s not the same swimmer he was four years ago. But: 16 gold medals. It’s a record of accomplishment unrivaled in Olympic history. It’s insane that in his third Olympics, he’s still producing performances like this. Yeah, he can be an easy guy to mock, but his swimming skill? That’s beyond reproach. See the race below, in two parts.

Had some fun at his expense? You published truly vile things that you claim Phelps supposedly said which, it turns out, are from an anonymous email. Anonymous email And, you repeated it as FACT. You called him the most ‘uninspiring’ Olympian in history because after 20 years(20 years!)of training, Phelps admitted sometimes he hates getting into the water. This site, and the doughy losers who write for it, have been disgraceful in it’s coverage of Phelps. Disgraceful.
