You Have To Love The Story Of Derek Rabelo, Blind Surfer

Anybody who has ever felt like giving up on an athletic endeavor need only look to Derek Rabelo, a Brazilian surfer who can ride with the best of them on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Derek doesn’t let a little thing like not being able to see keep him down.

The video doesn’t explain what Derek is doing in Oahu, but nonetheless there he is, dropping in with professional surfer Makua Rothman and generally being an inspiration. Rothman is the son of Eddie Rothman, founder of “Da Hui,” a group of badass surfers from the 70s who made a name for themselves by being awesome at surfing and harboring a strong dislike for outsiders. So for the Rothman clan to not only accept Rabelo but to call him “a hero,” says a lot about their respect for the guy.

And how could they not respect him? Dude is a BLIND SURFER. You can’t help but love it.
