Dereck Chisora Slaps Vitali Klitschko At Weigh-In, Will Probably Regret Slapping Vitali Klitschko At Weigh-In

On Saturday night, Vitali Klitschko and England’s Dereck Chisora face off for the WBC heavyweight title. Chisora is, to put it nicely, the underdog. Enough of a underdog that this story says the following: “[Klitschko] is 40, while Chisora is 28. But Klitschko has a massive advantage in height and reach — he is 6-foot-7 and has an 80-inch reach; Chisora is 6-2 with a 74-inch reach — and few give Chisora a chance of an upset.” So Klitschko isn’t the type of guy you want to be giving extra motivation. Yet, at today’s weigh-in, Chisora did this:

Sure, weigh-ins are ridiculous spectacles where crazy stuff like this is supposed to happen (like Chisora wearing that Union Jack handkerchief around his face that made him look like some kind of mysterious wild card figure who would do something crazy like, oh, say, slapping Klitschko), but this can only hurt him. The only explanation we’d accept (assuming Chisora doesn’t pull a shocking upset) is if Chisora secretly believed he had no chance to win and decided to just do something insane now to make it about something other than his inevitable beating in the ring.

Because that beating in the ring does seem inevitable. Klitschko was asked after the fact about the encounter, and in explaining why he didn’t so much of anything back after the slap, he said:

“I am going to hit back on Saturday. He will get his beating.”

Nice knowing you, Dereck.
