The Wind Caused A Safety At A Texas High School Football Game (Video)

Last week at a Texas high school football game, The Nelson Bobcats were punting from their own 27-yard line to the Guyer Wildcats. Except this routine football play went awry thanks to a severe gust of wind, which knocked the punt backwards in mid-air. The punt, which seemed to travel forward initially, flies off camera because the wind completely changed its direction of travel, causing it to land and roll backwards into the Nelson end zone.

Check out the handy blue arrow on the replay to keep track of the ball. Both the Nelson and Guyer players stopped running because BALL SPONTANEOUSLY CHANGED DIRECTION WHAT THE HELL, but a few enterprising souls kept their heads on straight and chased after it.

Nelson recovered the ball and was tackled for a safety, thus preventing the first phantom punt block-TD ever, but was put in the unfortunate situation of having to punt into the wind again. Remember, the ball is punted on safeties. Luckily the ball went forward the second time (barely), but Guyer scored on the ensuing possession thanks to the short field.

Annoying music aside, not a horrible camera job, considering.
