America: Is This The Coolest College Pep Band In The Nation?

Why, Virginia Commonwealth University, we didn’t know you had it in you! The VCU athletic band, known as the VCU Peppas, isn’t into the whole “striped shirts” and “instruments with the school’s logo” thing. And their band leader is seen as the “rebel” director of the conference, if there is such a thing. But besides shucking the bonds of being a bunch of nerds in striped shirts, the Peppas are also particularly good at playing their instruments. My head is bobbing. Here they are playing in Portland, Oregon.
No wonder the VCU basketball team is so good. The horn cypher that happens during the four minute mark alone is enough to get any team ready to play. Other schools should look into developing music programs like this, so their basketball teams have a chance to pull off two consecutive years of tournament upsets.
However, because the performance took place in Portland, expect to be told by all of your hipster friends that they knew about the Peppas before the group went mainstream.
Check out a profile of the band on CBS Sports.
