Today in Crazy Minor League Baseball Promotions: An $80 Hot Dog
It’s the wackiest minor league promotion since, well, a couple days ago.
The Brockton Rox, a Can-Am League team located in the suburbs of Boston, broke a Guinness World Record Saturday by selling a hot dog that costs $80. The K-O Dog, named after the team’s dog mascot, topped the previous record of a $69 hot dog set by Serendipity 3, a restaurant in New York City.
The dog itself is pretty simple – just a foot-long, half pound of regular beef – but the expense is in the details. According to Boston.com, the dog was:
[D]eep fried and rolled in truffle oil, then coated with porcini dust, sprinkled with white truffle shavings, and topped with dollops of creme fraiche, caviar and fresh roe. The dog will be served in a blini roll.
Sounds…interesting.
Buried in the Rox press release is the amusing nugget that the record was just barely broken. In order to set the mark, the team had to actually sell one of the gourmet weiners to somebody. Only two brave souls coughed up the money to taste history.
Neither came forward to tell the world how it tasted, if that tells you anything.
