Wing Bowl 2012: The Best And Worst Things About America, All Rolled Into One Event

Kobayashi shattered all previous records in the 20th annual Wing Bowl this morning, consuming 337 chicken wings — 36 more than the previous record, set last year. But, as with every year, the wings were only part of the story.

Wing Bowl, for the uninitiated, is an annual wing-eating competition in Philadelphia that starts very early in the morning. In addition to the large hairy men (and the skinny Japanese guy) stuffing their faces with chicken meat, the Wells Fargo Center is packed with many a drunk fan (people tailgate for this thing), and many a scantily-clad “Wingette.” So, in summation: chicken wings, fat guys, drunk guys, 20-somethings in pushup bras, all before 9 a.m. America!
