Adventures In Babysitting: Spanish Matador Under Investigation For Bullfighting While Holding Child
There's a special place in hell reserved for bullfighters and those who support them, where residents are tortured with spears and swords each day at sunrise, then hung by their heels and allowed to bleed to death while listening to Willem Dafoe sing the soundtrack to Frozen.
But if such is the eternal fate of everyday matadors, then what of those who hold their small children while engaging in a bullfight? WTF, you say? Just look below, my darlings.
Francisco Rivera Ordóñez, a bullfighter of some renown in Spain, is "being investigated by a child welfare office" after he posted the photo you see above on Instagram. Ordóñez is holding his five-month-old daughter while torturing a bull in the ring (they call it "fighting"). He then posted a photo of the stunt on social media.
When for some reason an outcry erupted, Ordóñez posted this followup tweet:
Como esta España... Pensar que he puesto a mi hija en peligro es una barbaridad.Mas segura que en mis brazos no va a estar nunca.
— F.R.Paquirri (@Paquirri74) January 25, 2016
In English, it says that "there is no safer place for my daughter than in my arms."
Yes, as one can see in the video below, there's nothing safer ... except maybe brewing beer with Flint, MI, tap water. Here's Ordóñez being seriously gored in a bullfight this past August. It was his second such puncturing.
Fun fact: Ordóñez's father, Francisco Rivera Pérez (also known as Paquirri), was gored to death by a bull in 1984.
Bullfighting is a dying "sport", which becomes less and less popular each year. Hopefully this will help kill it for good.
