Three weeks into the NBA season, and we’re finally getting an idea of how to separate the contenders from the pretenders, and the super contenders from the sorta contenders, and the definite pretenders to the teams that will grabbing the 16th and 17th picks in next year’s draft. Basically, these rankings are no longer guesswork.
Teams on the rise: the Blazers, who are taking advantage of an easy early schedule; the Nuggets, who have gone from “awful” to “not bad” in the span of a week.
Teams on the decline: the Knicks, who looks like a garbage sandwich; the Thunder, who failed two big tests to the Clippers and Warriors.
The Pacers finally lost, but they’ll retain the number one spot until another team shows they’re more worthy. The Jazz finally won, but they’re really, truly, unpleasantly bad so far, so they’ll stay 30th. Every other team falls somewhere in between.
