Ronda Rousey Talks Fighting Cris Cyborg And Floyd Mayweather
Ronda Rousey's popularity has never been higher -- she's undefeated in MMA after destroying yet another opponent in a fight measured in seconds rather than rounds; she's a posterwoman for being confident and happy and not complacent to be a "D.N.B."; and she just did a reddit "Ask Me Anything," which means people must really like her.
Rousey is excellently suited for reddit, considering her "nerdy" background -- she started off her bio on the site like so:
Ronda here. My favorite Pokemon is Mew and I used to moderate a Pokemon forum. I'm an active player on WOW and a Mage named Randa on TaichiPanda – I’m on the 3rd Game Of Thrones book and will shank a bitch who tries to give shit away about the series cause you watched the show already.
Oh, and I'm also the UFC Bantamweight Champion and undefeated in MMA.
So yeah, the internet loves her.
There were a lot of great questions and answers from the AMA, but our favorite was when Rousey was asked about, and addressed, her now-quite-public war of words with both Cris Cyborg and Floyd Mayweather.
Here's how Rousey responded when asked her "sincere opinion" about Cyborg -- there has been a lot of back and forth in the media about steroids and fear and money and so on:
Sincere opinion about Cyborg: she's just waiting to be offered enough money to get her ass kicked ('cuz she knows she'll get her ass kicked). I know for a fact she can make the weight. She consulted with Mike Dolce (my current nutritionist) before I ever started working with him and after consulting with her he said he could get her in "the best shape of her life" at 135. She then started being represented by Tito Ortiz and all talk stopped. The delay is all about money, not her weight. She made 145 pumped full of steroids. She can healthily make 135 without them. Her shows that she headlines lose thousands of dollars, and the majority of the tickets are given away because no one will buy them. She needs me. So pretty much we're waiting for her to realize that she needs to fight me before I retire or she'll never have enough money to retire. I would like me kicking her ass be my retirement fight but whether she steps up or not I'll walk away undefeated and happily ever after regardless.
Okay, well, that fight needs to happen. But perhaps not as much as a "no-rules" fight with Mayweather, who she admits would be tough to beat if taken in a boxing match:
Do I think I would legit beat Mayweather in a ruleless fight? Floyd is one of the best boxers of all time. He would definitely beat me in a boxing match. I unfortunately don't get into "matches". I fight for a living. In a no rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet. Boxing is a sweet science with strict rules that I respect very much and aspire every day to improve at. But you said ruleless fight, and that's my honest answer.
Of course, Floyd Mayweather agreeing to fight Rousey with "no rules" is about as likely as getting him to admit he actually beats up women outside the ring with no rules all the time. Gotta love the confidence though.
Ronda Rousey: People's champion.
