Pray the Royals Don’t Get Rained Out
You are going to need some help today my friend. We’re digging deep, as there are scores of big names with horrible matchups or performances against the opposing pitcher. So, unlike yesterday, where I went ape nuts crazy with hitting studs, today will be a shopping spree at the five and dime.
Let’s deal ‘em up!
Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA – Only two Astros hitters have a history against Iwakuma: Carlos Pena and Chris Carter are both 0-for-2 with a strike out. Then again, you can just project that out across the entire lineup with how this team hits (or doesn’t). Iwakuma has a sparkling 1.69 ERA with 18 Ks over his first four starts, which includes games against Texas and Detroit – teams far above Houston’s hitting capabilities. At just $6,800 FanDuel dollars, you have to play the man.
Salvador Perez, KC – Please don’t let this game get postponed! The catcher landscape is horrid today: Saltalamacchia 3-for-12, Wieters 1-for-6, Arencibia 1-for-4, VMart 1-for-9, Santana 0-for-5, Pierzynski 3-for-11, Buck 1-for-8, Montero 10-for-43 (.233 AVG). The only catchers with decent showings are Buster Posey at 4-for-11, Jonathan Lucroy 3-for-5 and my man, Perez at 5-for-7 with a double and two HRs. Plus, he’s just $2,500 FD!
Ian Kinsler, TEX – Looking throughout the second basemen, it’s not much better than catcher. Kinsler, however, is someone to spend the extra money on, as he is 12-for-35 (.343) with five doubles and a homer against Jason Vargas. Thin positions require some spending.
Carlos Gomez, MLW – Gomez is a nice 5-for-9 with a double and homer against Clayton Richard. On top of that, Gomez has 12 hits in his last 24 at-bats. He’ll cost just $3,300 FD/$3,800 DK.
Nelson Cruz, TEX – Cruz’s average isn’t the highest at just .310 against Jason Vargas (9-for-29), but of those nine hits, Cruz has taken Vargas deep three times. That’s a pretty darn good HR-to-hit rate!
Matt Joyce, TB – Call me crazy, go ahead. Here’s the deal though. Joyce is 5-for-11 with a double, triple and two dingers against Phil Hughes. That’s right, only one of Joyce’s hits didn’t go for extra bases. Oh, and he will cost you pennies: $2,500 FD.
Chris Johnson, ATL – Small sample, sure. Alliteration anyone? Ha, did it again. Anyway, Johnson is 2-for-2 against Jon Garland with one being a double, but he’s also raking right now with a .407 average and 22 hits in his last 12 games.
Other Good Deals – Jose Quintana $5,300 FD/$6,600 DK, Buster Posey $4,100 DK, Jean Segura $3,900 DK
Dustin Pedroia/David Ortiz, BOS – Pedroia is just 1-for-10 and Big Papi is 6-for-46 with 15 Ks against Bartolo Colon. Yes, that Bartolo Colon.
Ben Zobrist, TB – Hey, look who’s back. Big Z was here yesterday, and his outlook is more bleak today. Oh, Zobrist is simply 0-for-12 lifetime against Phil Hughes. Nothing too serious (sarcasm font).
Adrian Beltre, TEX – While many other Rangers hit Vargas well, Beltre just can’t seem to figure him out. Beltre is 2-for-21 against Vargas, good for a .095 AVG. Much too poor of a history to warrant spending the money needed.
