Apparently Beanie Babies Are Still A Thing, And They’ve Made A Cecil The Lion Version
Do you still have your Beanie Baby collection? (Sad, really). It's time to add one -- it's the late Cecil the Lion, who will now be immortalized in plush toy form. Ty Warner Inc., maker of the stuffed collectibles that debuted in 1993, have made a Cecil version, because what better way to honor the memory of this majestic beast than have it live forever behind your child's dresser?
There's already negative blowback in social media over this -- mostly centering on how the makers are callously making a buck over a tragic situation. But fear not -- it's all for a good cause, apparently.
All profits will go towards WildCRU, the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit of University of Oxford in Oxford England.
"Hopefully, this special Beanie Baby will raise awareness for animal conservation and give comfort to all saddened by the loss of Cecil," Ty Warner said.
Of course this is also great publicity for his company, but that's how capitalism works. I suppose it's a pretty good th ... OH NO. Look out, Cecil!:
