1989 Colin Cowherd Was Exactly Like 2015 Colin Cowherd
Now that he's officially on his way out of Bristol (and presumably headed to Fox Sports 1), we think it's fitting to take a look back at pre-ESPN Colin Cowherd, just to get an idea of what the guy looks like when he doesn't have the mothership leaning over his shoulder. Turns out, there's not much of a difference.
Cowherd's first big break out of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas was the sports director gig for NBC's Las Vegas-affiliate KSNV, which lasted from 1988 to 1994, at which point he left for an anchor position in Tampa, Florida (where he may or may not have been confronted by Terrell Owens at a party, FYI). This footage is from way back in December 27, 1989, making him 25 years old -- which is crazy considering how indistinguishable this iteration of Cowherd is from his present form.
He's still just as comfortable on camera.
He's still sneaking in snarky, off-the-cuff commentary.
He still carries himself with the distinct affect of Jefferson D'Arcy from "Married With Children."
Clearly, the man is some sort of unchanging sports television elemental, unaffected by the spacetime continuum. Wherever he winds up after his current contract runs out, we feel confident he's not going to change much about his shtick (no matter how much you may want him to).
