Here’s A Soccer Announcer Who’s Unsure Of The Rules Of Soccer
If you're going to be calling a professional soccer game, it'd probably be a good idea to learn some of the basic rules: handballs, offsides, and what the different colored penalty cards mean. Apparently such homework, however, was too much to ask from Colorado Rapids play-by-play man Chris Marlowe, who after witnessing a player get called for a red card, had to check to make sure what exactly that meant.
So, the red card is an ejection, correct?
Marlowe's gaffe starts at the 3:00 mark in the video below.
In fairness to Marlowe, his main job is calling Denver Nuggets games and Olympic volleyball for NBC. On the other hand, this is a man being paid to do a job, which he was either unprepared for or at the very least wasn't completely confident in performing. It's safe to say, though, that this will probably be the last time Marlowe asks such a question on the air.
