Colin Cowherd Continues Ripping Off His Peers, This Time Uses Bit From The Dan Patrick Show
The intrepid sports media sleuths over at Awful Announcing have unearthed yet another instance of Colin Cowherd participating in a segment that has a nearly identical version on a competing network. (See what we did there? We gave Awful Announcing credit for finding this story because it's theirs.)
Three weeks ago, Scott Van Pelt pointed out the undeniable similarity between Fox's NFL Kickoff Pregame "You Played, I Didn't" and Russillo & Kannell's "I Played, You Didn't" bit. While the concept of a layperson talking with a former professional athlete is in no way proprietary, the name certainly is. It's up to those that use it to come up with an original title -- if for no other reason than out of respect.

Not surprisingly, Cowherd didn't seem to have much of an issue with ripping stuff. Here's what he said on his show after the internet caught wind of the lifted bit.
PEOPLE CONFUSE THINGS ALL THE TIME. STEALING, YOU’RE STEALING MY BLANK, YOU’RE STEALING. YOU DO REALIZE THERE WAS ONCE ONE NFL PREGAME SHOW. NOW ALL THE NETWORKS HAVE THEM. IS THAT STEALING? THERE WAS ONCE ONE SOAP OPERA, THEN THERE WERE 60. WAS THAT STEALING? NO. IT WAS ADAPTATION. THERE WAS ONCE A CRIME DRAMA. NOW EVERY NETWORK HAS SIX. THERE WAS ONCE ONE REALITY SHOW, REAL WORLD, MTV. NOW THERE’S A HUNDRED. IS THAT STEALING? IT’S CALLED ADAPTATION. IF YOU WORK IN MY BUSINESS, THE CULINARY BUSINESS, TECH, GOVERNMENT, MEDIA, MOVIES, YOU BETTER GET USED TO INTRODUCING THINGS AND THEN BEING DUPLICATED ACROSS THE STREET. IT’S ADAPTATION. IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE.
In keeping with his belief that it's kosher to borrow content, Cowherd debuted "Storytime With Uncle Colin" on his FS1 simulcast show Wednesday, which bore a striking resemblance to Dan Patrick's "Story Time With Uncle Dan."
Listen, we get it -- you both are totally capable of having siblings with children of your own and we're sure you both have stories worth sharing them, but c'mon, take two seconds and call it something else. Something new. Call it "Colin Talks About Something He Saw The Other Day." Stop pretending that story time with your uncle is such an intoxicating idea that you simply cannot pass up the opportunity to frame things that way.
Check out the segments side-by-side and tell us they're not the exact same thing...
Let's see if Cowherd claims ignorance and blames his producer for this one, too.

-- DP Show producer Paul Pabst clarified that "Story Time" isn't so much a preplanned segment as it is an off-the-cuff subtitle thrown up by their graphics team.
@SportsGrid For us, it's not a planned segment. It's just something our graphics person puts up when Dan tells a story.
