Pure Gold: Stephen Colbert Moderates Trump Vs. Trump Debate (With Surprise Appearance By Grimace)
Donald Trump boycotted the seventh Republican debate tonight in the midst of his ongoing feud with Fox News, and held his own rally a few miles from Drake College in Iowa, where the other candidates squared off. This delighted Stephen Colbert, who imagined what it would be like if Trump could somehow debate himself. Wouldn't that be the ultimate ratings grabber?
And so his "Late Show" audience got the "2016 Top Tremendous All-You-Can-Trump Luxury Presidential Debate" they didn't know they wanted. It's Trump vs. Trump, "or as they are known by their celebrity couples name: Dump."
Look, we all know that politicians contradict themselves, even in this age of social media and instant video recall. But Trump has made it an art -- praising those who are with him, and lashing out at those who cross him. The fact that occasionally those happen to be the same person, well, it doesn't seem to matter to him.
Colbert brings this to light in brilliant fashion.
"OK. Right out of the gate there's a strong difference of opinion between our one candidate."
But these were the best parts:
"Mr. Trump, it is nice to see you finally reach out to a person of color."
And finally, from Trump himself:
"If Ivanka weren't my daughter perhaps I'd be dating her."
That was a true Trump quote. Good morning, folks!
