Sports Show With Norm Macdonald Will Be Weekend Update For Sports Fans. Will People Watch?

Comedy Central already has a guy telling political jokes (Jon Stewart) and they already have a guy riffing on irreverent viral videos (Daniel Tosh), so what's next? It could be Sports Show with Norm Macdonald, a Weekend Update-type program for the sports fan that premieres tonight on Comedy Central.
Sports Show aims to merge the massive Daily Show crowd with the coveted younger-skewing fan base of the show preceding it, Tosh.0. It has a desk for Macdonald to sit behind in the traditional format and it will also have pre-taped bits: something for everyone in the age of fractured TV audiences.
Macdonald had two previous sitcoms on network television that failed, but this format - behind a desk telling jokes - fits him like a glove. He received the most acclaim of his career as the Weekend Update anchor. Macdonald can't act, but he can write jokes and he's a legitimate sports fan. No one was a better ESPYS host.
The weekly show is taped on Monday night in front of a live audience and then airs the next night. Obviously, the ideal would be to do the show live to keep the material as fresh as possible, but the only time the show will suffer because of its delay is if something happens late in a Monday Night Football broadcast.
Sports shows in general aren't successful, but this format hasn't been tried. Onion SportsDomeis the closest, but it's satirical. A Weekend Update show about sports with Norm Macdonald hosting? It'll be funny, but will sports fans tune in?
